What does it take to Achieve Your Goals with Distance Learning Degrees in Education?

Contributed by: Daniel Cohen

Not that long ago, distance learning degrees in education were considered not possible. The traditional brick and mortar college and university used to be the only road to achieve a post secondary education or degree.

Times are changing. It has been recognized how difficult it is for those that are working, raising a family and/or have other commitments to achieve degrees in education. The traditional education structure is focused on the young student who can either live at home or on campus. Today, education is at your doorstep. More schools than ever before are shifting to meet the educational needs of a changing society.

Everything From Certificates to a Distance Education Doct is Possible

Distance learning degrees in education offer the ability to learn at your convenience and from your own home. From specialized certificates to associate or bachelor degrees can be earned through non-traditional distance education courses offered via mail, videos and over the internet. Even advanced degrees such as a distance education doct are available non-traditionally. Without the extra travel time and structured course times, distance learning degrees are now possible for those with a job, a family, and a life. People who pursue distance learning degrees in education quite often have similar characteristics. Those individuals usually are:

  • Searching for a means to balance family, work and life while still pursuing their educational goals.
  • Self-motivated and focused. Success means to be disciplined enough to start your courses, carry through and complete your distance learning degree.
  • Proficient at time management. Distance learners are usually juggling priorities- work, family and school.

Distance learning degrees in education usually involve reading and understanding large amounts of written text. While a regular college degree involves reading, it also includes lectures and labs to teach the material. Many distance courses are acquired by reading and understanding written material. If you are serious about distance education, then additional online reading training is advisable.

A successful distance learner also has the ability to stay focused without one-to-one teacher-student interaction. Your world is your classroom and the social elements found in traditional schools are not there. A distance learner uses the internet - email and online chat to talk with teachers and peers around the country and sometimes around the world.

When a distance learning degree in education is what you are looking for, then online and distance education may be the perfect choice to balance your educational goals with your life. Request more information about distance learning and if you are still hesitant, try a class or two. Most credits are transferable if you chose not to go through with the distance education route.
